The Ultimate Guide for your Period: Questions and Tips

You do not need to avoid sexual activity during your period. Although the sex may be a bit messy, it is perfectly safe.

Also, having sex during menstruation can actually offer some benefits, including relieving menstrual cramps

Let’s answer some of the most common questions about sex.

  1. Is sex safe during my period?

The answer is yes. In fact, hormonal changes during menstruation (increased levels of estrogen and testosterone) can make sex even more enjoyable.

  1. Can I get pregnant during my period?

Yes. Nobody has a perfectly stable menstrual cycle so you can never be completely sure  that you can’t get pregnant. Also, sperm can survive inside the uterus for up to 5 days, so you could get pregnant way  after you have sex. So, to avoid the calculations and the baby risk, wear a condom.

  1. Does menstruation reduce pain?

Sexual contact and orgasm, if you have one, release pleasure hormones – oxytocin,  dopamine, endorphins – that can help reduce pain and swelling. So if you have an appetite  for sex, you might be able to skip a painkiller.

  1. Should I still worry about  Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s)?

Your period cannot protect you from sexually transmitted infections and in fact, the  chances of transmitting blood-borne diseases such as HIV may increase. So, again, wear  a condom.

  1. Can I wear tampons or period cups during sex while I am menstruating?

Better take out your tampon or period cup. The last thing you want to be doing after sex is going to the hospital for a lodged tampon  removal! Don’t forget though that you can always use the Ziggy Cup, a cup especially  made for safe, mess-free period sex! It’s made from ultra thin silicone and can’t be felt at  all but perfectly holds light and heavy flow! Woo-hoo!

Having sex during menstruation – or not knowing how to do it – can be stressful if you are not prepared.

Can sex during my period become messy? Yes.

Can it be an amazing experience as well as a process of building trust for you and your partner? Absolutely.

Let’s see some tips regarding sex during menstruation.

  1. Communicate with your partner

The most important thing is to talk to your partner about any concerns you both might  have, and to go into it free of worries. Remember to stop sex whenever you feel anything negative, even if it feels too early or  too late to say something.

  1. Hop in the shower

A surefire way to avoid doing laundry after period sex is to do it in the bathroom. Get ready for stress-free standing positions! Just don’t forget the non-slip mat.

  1. Bring a towel

A single dark-coloured towel can make all the difference. I don’t know what you have in mind, but don’t expect any fountains of blood! A large bath towel is more than enough to soak up any spills. Put it down on the furniture  of your choice and get to work.

  1. There’s more than one way to bake a cake!

You can keep your cup or tampon in and try oral or anal sex, you can dry hump, or mutually masturbate. The world is your oyster!

  1. Do it by yourself

You don’t need a partner to have great sex, you have you! If you are feeling horny vibes but don’t want anybody involved, masturbate till the cows come home. You have our blessing.

  1. If you don’t want to, don’t do it!

If the idea still feels unpleasant to you, just don’t do it. Leave it for five days later and don’t worry about anything. Besides, some people believe that the period days are for rest, physical and mental, so consider giving your vagina this time off.

Friendly Reminder: Periods do not need to slow down your sex life and with a little preparation it can be even more enjoyable than normal. Stay safe and have fun!
